When I think of Camden, I think of the bustling markets, street food, canal boats, and trendy people. The kids had never experienced this before, so off we headed for a day of culture, good food, and plenty of shopping. So here is things to do With Kids in Camden Town

Now, I know the kids don’t like shopping; in fact, they initially did not even want to come. But I persevered, as I remember being a teenager and finding that Camden was actually my favourite place to shop. We gave the kids a small budget of money to spend, and I tried very hard not to dissuade them from making their own independent purchases. We came back with a few interesting items, to say the least.

Camden Market
Our first stop was Camden Market. This market has changed somewhat over the years. It used to be a bit more varied, with arts and crafts stalls and some vintage thrown in. I remember purchasing an old leather jacket here many years ago, and I thought I was the bee’s knees.
Now, it’s more new items, like phone cases and printed T-shirts. Owen and Harry both loved it here. There were plenty of chances to barter a bit for a good deal, too.

Walk Along Camden Highstreet
The street of Camden itself is amazing. The shops are all quirky, with big, overly animated structures on the shopfronts. Huge Converse boots and Doctor Martins hang from the walls, so there is so much to see visually. The boys thought it was really cool.

Find Street Art
One thing I love about this area is it has an abundance of Street art. The boys even posed for me for photos; we got some great shots. Owen even asked me to take photos of him! He is normally so far away from the camera you can’t see him for dust. His funky beanie hat was one of his independent purchases, might I add, and I don’t think we have seen it since. There is street art on each corner, which makes for a great backdrop for photos.

Explore Camden Locks Markets
Our next stop was the historic Camden Lock, where you can find anything from food stalls to artisan stalls and quirky second-hand shops.
The choice of food is extensive, with food from all over the world, including Thai, Indian, Mexican, and even cupcakes.
The smell is mouthwatering. I spend far too much time wandering around trying to make a decision. The kids love the food, too. Owen had his favourite Halloumi, and we opted for some nice paella. I’ve tried curry here and some amazing fruit smoothies. You could really sit here all day and eat for not much money at all.
Dont forget to walk along Umbrella street in the Stables Market too!
There are now even more markets than ever in Camden Town, so do not forget to visit the other ones that include:
- Camden markets
- Chalton Street Market
- Earlham Street Market
- Goodge Place Market
- Inverness Street Market
- Leather Lane Market
- Plender Street Market
- Queen’s Crescent Market
- Swiss Cottage Market
- Privately run markets in Camden

Check out the Street Artists
There are many street artists and performers around the area. You could even have your caricature done if you are brave enough. It was great fun, and the boys really enjoyed it.

Take a Canal Boat Ride on Regent’s Canal
If you fancy venturing a bit further, you could always take a canal tour boat to London Zoo or Little Venice. You can take the boat as a return or a one-way trip. Trips are almost every hour and displayed on the board.
You won’t be going on a gondola, but this also looked great fun.

Check Out Babylon Park Indoor Funfair in London
Did you know there’s an indoor funfair in London? Babylon Park Camden is a space-themed indoor amusement park in Camden Town featuring a rollercoaster, bumper cars, and loads of fun! It’s the perfect place to escape the everyday hustle—or even the rain—and dive into an intergalactic adventure. Babylon Park London is a neon-lit, space-themed indoor funfair buzzing with excitement. Check out our thoughts on this cosmic playground and some photos of Babylon Park London!

Grab a Sweet Treat at Hans and Gretel
Discover a magical dessert emporium at Camden Market, featuring artisan, handmade gelato with various vegan options. Indulge in delicious treats at Hans and Gretel that cater to every palate in this enchanting space!

Check Out the Mods at some of the vintage Shops.
One of my favourite shops is the Godfather shop in the Stable market further up. If you’re lucky, you will catch one of the bikers with their mod scooter and many mirrors. I wish I had taken a close-up of the mirrors; the look on Owens’s face was priceless.
You could wander for ages amongst the many shops and spend very little or as much as you like. There are many real vintage stores with some good original pieces in store. There are lots of jewellery stalls with trinket jewellery and more artisan silver jewellery, too.

Explore Cyberdog
One must-visit shop if you have the kids with you is Cyberdog. It’s a futuristic 90s style clothing and accessory shop. You can buy neon clubbing outfits, Light-up shoes, and quirky gifts in a loud, buzzing environment. T-shirts light up while podium dancers strut their stuff to very loud club music. It really is an experience but do not venture in to the over 18 part with children.

Explore the Music Walk Of Fame Stones Along Camden High Street
The Music Walk of Fame is set to stretch from Chalk Farm to Mornington Crescent, eventually celebrating over 400 of the music industry’s brightest stars. These record-shaped plaques, each embedded in a square metre of granite, honour true musical icons, creating a lasting tribute to their legendary contributions.

Follow in the Footsteps of Amy Winehouse
Amy Winehouse was well renowned for coming from Camden Town. You can take a self-guided tour of her old haunts and see her statue in the stables market.

When to Visit Camden Town
I have found the best time to visit Camden is at the weekend. Saturdays are generally slightly less busy than Sundays and Bank holidays. I’ve even visited midweek and managed to get a bench to eat my food on, which can be a rare sight.
If you don’t have the kids, pop up to Proud Bar in the stables market for a cocktail and hopefully catch happy hour.
What to Pack for a London trip!
